Getting ready to teach James McBride's The Color of Water to a new batch of freshmen. This is one of my all time favorite books because of how well it's written, how personal it is and how it opens my kids', as well as my own, eyes to how other people have had to live and what they've endured. The coolest thing about this true story is that it shows that despite all the odds that may be against you, if you put your heart and soul and mind to it, you can overcome and make a rewarding and remarkable life for yourself.

If you've never read this novel, it's part autobiography and part biography, being that James wrote about his own childhood as well as his mother's life. The challenges they both faced on a daily basis would put most people under, however, both James and his mother kept God and in the forefront and because of their strong faith with their walk with Christ and because of Ruth's (James' mother) will to raise her 12 children with love and strict rules, education and church being two of the most important, the entire family found success and happiness, love and pride. This is definitely a book worth reading and not one you'll eve

Moving and Grooving Through the Outlander Series of Books
I should never have started reading these books again. Now I get frustrated when I don't have time to read. I'm putting off doing things I should be doing so I can sit on my couch and become absorbed into Claire's life again. I've finished The Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber (for the 3rd time) and am over halfway through The Voyager again. They're the BEST. The characters are so real; the storylines are so creative and captivating. The research Diana Gabaldon must have done to accurately display this time period must have been endless and tedious. I bow down to her intelligence and gift for writing.
The next 6 episodes of the mini series will start airing April 2nd. Can't wait!!!!!!!!!

Reading The Outlander Series for the 3rd time because I'm OBSESSED!
Diana Gabaldon wrote this series and in my opinion she is one of the BEST current day authors. Her characters seem so real; she did a tremendous amount of research on the time periods her stories take place in that I learn a lot, and now it's a movie series on Starz so I get to see the stories and characters come alive on tv!
The genre is labeled as romantic drama but it's a great deal of historical fiction and fantasy as well since it includes time travel. Claire is on her honeymoon in Scotland in 1945 when she falls through the stones at Craig Na Dun into 1700's Scotland where she meets Jamie Fraiser.
I literally can't put the books down even 3rd time around and can't wait until April 2nd when the next 8 episodes come out on Starz.

GREAT READ!
I'm reading an amazing novel right now that I can't put down and can't stop reading and it's even the 2nd time I've read it: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers. It's a fictional novel based on the Biblical story of Hosea. Ms. Rivers is a fantastic writer. The story line moves incredibly with such real characters that keep me feeling almost to the point of crying or screaming at times. I love how the story is told both through Angel's point of view and through Michael's point of view. It's not confusing at all, either, when the voice of the story switches. Another aspect I like in the story is the fact that the chapters are short which gives the reader easy stopping points. I feel the hurt with Angel and the frustration with Michael. The quotes from the Bible as well as from other philosophers adds the beauty of the story as do the allusions used throughout the story. Read this! You won't be sorry.
