I love to read. I've always loved to read. Of course, like with many people, I prefer to read what interests me. Tiredness, apathy and disinterest sets in when I have to read a book that doesn't engage me. When I do read a book that wakes up my mind, though, it's invigorating. Being able to relate to a book's character, plot, or message, puts my thoughts and emotions in motion. Sometimes I start thinking about my own life or actions or I begin to formulate actions I want to take, thinks I hope to do. Books can truly incite me when they're relevant to me. Fictional books can really draw me in if they're well written. The characters start coming alive for me and I think about them and their problems even when I'm not reading the book. I draw from their feelings or their choices they make; I learn from their mistakes and I rejoice when their world comes together for them in a joyous way. When reading non-fiction, I can undeniably learn lessons and can reflect on my own life, my past, my choices and consequences I had to endure. Reading is an escape as well as an eye-opener. Reading brings me relaxation and happiness but can also teach me life lessons. As Dr. Suess told us ~ The more that you read, the more that you'll know. The more that you learn, the more places you go.

Review of The Girl on the Train
I AM going to blog on this book one day soon, especially since I've almost finished reading it and the movie is now out, but for now JUST READ IT. You will not be able to get it out of your mind. It's definitely a page-turner psychological thriller! Extrememly well-written as well.

Getting ready to teach James McBride's The Color of Water to a new batch of freshmen. This is one of my all time favorite books because of how well it's written, how personal it is and how it opens my kids', as well as my own, eyes to how other people have had to live and what they've endured. The coolest thing about this true story is that it shows that despite all the odds that may be against you, if you put your heart and soul and mind to it, you can overcome and make a rewarding and remarkable life for yourself.

If you've never read this novel, it's part autobiography and part biography, being that James wrote about his own childhood as well as his mother's life. The challenges they both faced on a daily basis would put most people under, however, both James and his mother kept God and in the forefront and because of their strong faith with their walk with Christ and because of Ruth's (James' mother) will to raise her 12 children with love and strict rules, education and church being two of the most important, the entire family found success and happiness, love and pride. This is definitely a book worth reading and not one you'll eve
